A child can explain black holes at dinner, build complex worlds in Minecraft, or read far above grade level, then melt down over a worksheet, forget homework, or freeze during a timed quiz.

That mismatch can feel confusing. Adults may assume a bright child should be able to “just try harder.” The truth is more complicated. Many capable students struggle because their strengths and weaknesses are uneven. Intelligence is not one single skill, and school asks children to manage many skills at once.
